iPod touch - Awaiting Delivery (updating)

9:27am CDT - My iPod touch order is on a FedEx vehicle for delivery and is scheduled to arrive at my house by 10:30am. Stay tuned for updates, first impressions, and maybe even a few pictures.

10:22am - Well, we've almost reached the 10:30 delivery estimate time, but nothing has arrived yet...

11:50am - As the noon hour approaches, still nothing has arrived. This is disappointing...

Preparing for Shipment

Great news! My iPod touch order is now preparing for shipment. This means it should be on its way soon. Check back here for updates on the iPod's fateful transit to my home, and look forward to impressions and a review of both the iPod and the EarPods once it arrives. Until next time,

Nathan

Mini-Rant: Apple's New Lightning Connector

I'm seeing a lot of complaints on tech blogs about Apple's new Lightning connector. Seriously, just stop.

This is not the first time Apple has done something like this, and it's worked out fine before. Remember when Apple started making computers without CD drives? First, it was the MacBook Air. Then, the change moved to the Mac Mini and the MacBook Pro. Sure, people complained at first, but nobody is bothered by it now. It has become the new normal. In the same way, the Lightning connector is going to become the new normal.

You're complaining now, but in a couple years you will look back and laugh. The Lightning connector will be the new iconic connector for all of Apple's iDevices. We're in an awkward transition phase now, but we'll get through it and everything is going to be okay. I, for one, don't see the problem. New iPod docks with the Lightning connector will be coming out in the near future. All of the devices that have the Lightning connector come with a cable, you can use that for charging and syncing. The only complaint I somewhat understand is "my BMW with an integrated iPod dock won't work with my phone now," but come on. If it's that much of a problem, Mr. BMW Owner, go buy an iPod that has the 30-pin connector (assuming you don't own one already). Nobody says your iPhone must be your only music listening device. I own multiple iDevices and they all get equal amounts of use. If you can afford to buy a bunch of Apple products, you can afford to replace a dock and a couple of chargers.

I seriously don't understand all the complaints. Get over it, tech bloggers. It's not that much of a problem. Are we just searching for a reason to pick on Apple or something? Grow up.

Resurrection

Hello, readers!

After some thought and consideration, I have decided to resurrect this depressingly dead blog. Recently, my interest in writing has been rekindled, as I have selected it as a potential career. With that in mind, I figured it would be good to get some practice while I'm in my final year of high school. What better place to practice than the Internet? The world is your audience!

In the near future, a big focus of this blog will probably be Apple-related posts. As I have probably mentioned previously, I'm something of a fan. My next big post is going to be a review of the 5th generation iPod touch, which I have preordered. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival, as it is a big upgrade for me. I've been rocking a 2nd generation iPod touch since March of 2009, and it has grown old and slow (as well as scratched and dented, although I've managed to keep the screen intact). I'll be writing a review that contrasts my experience with the 5th generation and 2nd generation models. Hopefully it turns out to be an interesting read! Look forward to that sometime in October, after the iPod touch has shipped.

I will also be using this blog as an outlet for other posts on various geek topics, as well as perhaps a rant or two (I do enjoy ranting). You can always hit up Project 538 for cool stories, tales of my daily life, fun retrospectives (that will be about as retrospective as a senior in high school can get, anyway), and attempts at reviewing products. Maybe I'll even do some creative writing posts if I can get a good idea bouncing around in my head. If you like what you read here, leave a comment below and tell your friends about us! If you don't like what you read here, leave a comment below letting me know what you think I could do to improve.

At the moment I can't promise any particular update schedule, although hopefully I'll be able to get that figured out in the coming week or two. A couple of new things are about to be added to my schedule, and all of my life priorities obviously have to come first before I can write blog posts about silly things.

Anyway, goodbye for now. Hopefully you enjoyed this read, and I look forward to providing your eyes with wonderful words to read in the future.

May the Force be with you,

Nathan Grizzle

People Read This?

I haven't posted in two months and the page view count is higher than it last was. Why exactly people still bother to read this blog, I'll never know. It's not that I don't care, it's that I haven't the foggiest idea what to write about. Suggestions are welcome. The problem with this blog is that it's a blog about nothing in particular. Nobody wants to read about nothing. I need a topic. A theme for the blog, if you will. Apparently I'm not creative enough to think of one (which is odd, considering I love writing creative stories), so hopefully a reader out there is creative enough to come up with something...

Don't Worry, I'm Not Dead

This post is for all five of you who may have actually followed this blog at one point. Fear not, I'm still here. I have no excuse for not posting in however long it's been, and hopefully I can get back in to a routine of posting. I primarily am returning to inform you all of a new way to contact me. In the past, I had been a bit wary of giving out my cell phone number, so I am now pleased to announce that I can be reached (texts only, it's not a real cell number) at 1-(774)-204-6308. This is due to a cool little smartphone messaging app called HeyWire. So, feel free at any time to shoot me a text, and just mention that you got the number from my blog. Also, I just started using Dropbox, and I have been working on a novel. These two things may seem unrelated, but at some point I could possibly throw a sample of the book in to my public Dropbox folder and give you all a taste of what I'm writing about. More on that to come later. For now, I shall sign off. See you next mission time!

I'm Back!

There was a time when I was posting on this blog quite frequently. Then along came a period of time when the post frequency seriously diminished, due to the loss of my primary posting tool, an iPod touch. Since I have re-acquired that iPod, I would like to announce that something wonderful has happened: my post frequency is going to go back up, provided that I have things to write about.
Currently my life is calm enough that ranting about whatever on here doesn't feel necessary. That's not to say I won't rant in the future, of course. As it happens, anything worthy of writing about is too personal for a blog that's open to the public. I'm not about to turn this in to my Internet diary that only everyone has access to.
Aaaanyway, I'm not really sure where to go from here, so I'll sign off. As we used to say here, I'll see you next mission!
